The California Surf Museum is pleased to honor Hawaiian beachboy and surfing legend Albert "Rabbit" Kekai at this year’s Old Timers’ Day gathering on Sunday, October 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the downtown library’s community rooms. Come for an afternoon of Aloha, complete with a luau feast, ukulele musicians and hula dancers. Oh – and longtime friends and acquaintances.
The personable 88-year old Rabbit is the latest in an exclusive line of watermen to be recognized at the museum’s annual festival. His surfing career spans from the time of the classic, laid-back style of Hawaii’s Father of Modern Longboarding, the late Duke Kahanamoku, to the energy-driven kinetics of today’s hard-charging icons. One of the first noseriders as well, he has left a lasting imprint on how contests are judged. Over several decades, Rabbit the Beachboy taught scores of movie stars, sports figures and celebrities the finer points of surfing. A humble and generous man, he now heads the Rabbit Kekai Foundation, which is dedicated to helping children through surfing and education.
Admission to the event is free; tickets for the luau buffet will be available at the California Surf Museum beginning in September. For more information, please contact the California Surf Museum at 721-6876 or visit
