Celebrate the vibrant culture of Mexico and enjoy its music, dance, food and artistic traditions. The event is a way to learn more about the diverse regions of our neighbor to the south, as we honor their rich culture and history.

Highlights:
Traditional music and dance
Lively dances from Jalisco, Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Michoacán, and other regions will be featured including "La Danza de los Viejitos" (Dance of the Little Old Men) and "Los Diablos" (Devil Dance).

Children’s crafts in the Patio Courtyard

Children will have fun making colorful paper flowers and papel picado (cut paper).

Stories and Puppet Show in the Library Children’s Room

Hear traditional Mexican folktales and see a puppet show about Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera presented by students from Palomar College.

Mexican food
Delicious traditional Mexican food such as tortas, tamales and tacos will be available for sale.

Call for Independence
The event concludes with a reenactment of the "Grito de Dolores", Father Miguel Hidalgo’s inspiring speech delivered in 1810, which became the rallying cry for Mexico’s independence from Spain.

Exhibit
The Library will have a display about Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

All events are free and open to the public. Performances take place on the Plaza Stage except where noted.
