120 Years Ago Mrs. Helen Dickinson has been employed as the third teacher in the public school at the "upper town" at a salary of $65. She has had thirteen years' experience.

The moving of the fire house from its present location on the railroad grounds to the southeast corner of Hill and 2nd streets is a good plan and the advantages of it can be readily seen. It will be nearer the center of town and will make the labor seem much less in reaching a fire on account of the incline between Cleveland and Hill Streets.

The high school opened Monday and the enrollment is twenty-five, which number promises to be increased by the time the institution is well under way for the term. The grammar school will begin Monday morning.
90 Years Ago Several auto loads of members of the Blanche Sweet moving picture company were in Oceanside Tuesday and Wednesday. They shot several scenes of a war film one including an automobile wreck which was pulled off on the highway at South Oceanside.

Construction on a quarter-million-dollar motel addition to the MiraMar Restaurant in Oceanside will begin in about two weeks, O. M. Morris, owner of the property, announced yesterday after opening of bids.
The MiraMar motel will be a two-story building with garage space below the first floor. D. R. Daugherty and Frank Marcom, operators of the MiraMar Restaurant, will supervise construction. Architects plan a Polynesian motif for the motel.

Flag Day ceremonies in Buddy Todd Park Saturday marked the donation of a flagpole and friendship ring to the City by Oceanside Neighborhood Girl Scouts. Accepting the gift was Councilman John Steiger.
The flag ceremony was conducted by Senior Troop 403 members Janis McGuire, Sharon Kaplafka, Cindy Simmons, Michelle Needham and Gail Cavanaugh.
