NEWS BRIEFS - Fall 2008 (Cont...)
Local Daycare a Champion for Children
Local company, Together We Grow, has been advocating children’s causes through its Pediatric Day Health Care centers for over twenty years. With two San Diego locations, one being in Oceanside, Together We Grow offers inclusive child development and education programs for medically fragile and typical children.
While the weekdays are predominantly reserved for infant to preschool-aged children, the weekends see medically fragile children ranging from infant to 21 years. Together We Grow is the only place in San Diego that will take children with severe medical conditions for overnight care. Through this program, children can experience camp, sleepovers and even proms, which many would not experience otherwise. Additionally, it gives parents who have sometimes not had a break for years a much-needed rest.
Together We Grow’s innovative group-model and inclusive environment, which mixes typical and medically fragile children together in a setting dependent on age rather than developmental stage, promotes an understanding and compassion in all those involved. While medically fragile children get the opportunity to be around their peers and feel what it is like to be treated like everyone else, the typical children have the opportunity to experience diversity and learn acceptance.
