Pirates Descend on Harbor Days

The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce along with the Oceanside Harbor District, Cox Communications and Genentech will present the annual Oceanside Harbor Days on Sept. 15 and 16, 2007, at the Oceanside Harbor. The event will feature arts and crafts exhibits, great food and fun activities for the entire family. This free event is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm each day.

In addition to the annual lineup of entertainment, Harbor Days 2007 will feature Pirates of the Harbor. Complete with everything "pirate" the two-day event will include two pirate-style ships docked in the Harbor, a pirate water show, singers and entertainers, pirate costume contests, music, hats and swords to buy, and even Capt. Jack Sparrow!

Pirates of the Harbor will be located at the north end of the Harbor in "Pirates Cove." There will be two pirate water shows each day, as well as a pirate costume contest on both days, finishing with a Capt Jack Sparrow look a like contest on Sunday.

The 2007 line-up includes:

Mayor's Cup Regatta: City leaders from all over San Diego County come to flaunt their nautical expertise in a goodhearted, often surprising sailing competition.

Fishing Derby: Guests swarm around the fishing pier in order to witness youngsters cast their lines for the biggest fish.

Nail and Sail: Spectators are entertained as sailors sink or swim in this contest which pits brain against brawn as teams build and navigate a seaworthy craft around a short but treacherous course.

The two event-filled days of sun, sand, and surf will also include past favorites such as the 28th Annual Miss Southern California Children’s-Teen Pageant, the Third Annual Harbor Cruise Classic Car Show, a kids’ karate demonstration, a muscleman/ woman bench press contest, Caribbean-style music and more.

Harbor Days Sponsors include: Bank of America, Bamboo Source Tropical Decor, North County Times, Oceanside Harbor Village Merchants, San Diego Union Tribune, Tri-City Medical Center, and Waste Management of North County.
