Lights, Camera, Action!
For Oceanside Museum of Art’s Focus on Film
Lights, camera, action! Oceanside Museum of Art is presenting Focus on Film, with show-time at 5:00 pm Saturday, October 8th at the Star Theatre, 402 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside. The Star Theatre is an historic cinema house renovated to reflect its heyday when it first opened its doors in 1956 as one of the largest movie theaters in San Diego County. Focus on Film is the museum’s fall fundraiser this year with a marquee that offers a major Australian Ballroom Dancing film, a wine reception and scrumptious light buffet supper courtesy of Outback Steakhouse, live musical entertainment by Gemma’s Gig, a ballroom dance exhibition by Christy Johnson and the Rhythm Central dancers, and a behind-the-scenes look at film making with Hollywood film editor, John Venzon. Venzon has worked on such high-profile movies as The Horse Whisperer, Panic Room, Shark Tale, Twister, and South Park. He is currently lead editor for the animated comedy in production, Flushed Away, featuring the voices of Kate Winslet, Hugh Jackman, and Ian McKellan. Guests will also have a chance to bid on authentic Hollywood movie memorabilia including earrings worn by Marilyn Monroe and a cape belonging to Ginger Rogers.
Admission for Oceanside Museum of Art members is available with a $50 donation, $60 for nonmembers. For reservations, call the museum at (760) 721-2787. For information about Focus on Film or other museum programs, visit the Web site, www.oma-online.org.
