Heritage Park Celebrates 30th Anniversary

In August, Heritage Park Village & Museum, located at 220 Peyri Road, celebrated its 30th anniversary with costumes, ice cream and a big band orchestra. The park is home to many of the original historic buildings of Oceanside. Built in 1975 to honor part of Oceanside’s heritage, this spot provides an ambient backdrop for educational programs, special events and community gatherings of all kind. Heritage Park is one of Oceanside’s jewels and best kept secrets – come visit the park today!

The two-acre park is located near the historical Mission San Luis Rey on El Camino Real. The land was originally occupied by a native Indian village from 1778-1815. Later this property belonged to Pio Pico, the Spanish Governor of California. In 1865 President Abraham Lincoln returned the land to the Brothers of the San Luis Rey Mission. In early 1892, the property was acquired by the County road department and was used as a maintenance yard until 1961 when the City of Oceanside purchased the space intending to build a fire station. Realizing the land was not suitable for this purpose in 1975 it became Oceanside’s Heritage Park.
